KU Rugby teams to compete at Collegiate Rugby Championships this weekend in Philadelphia
Championship Central | Tickets The Kutztown University men's and women's rugby teams will participate in the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championships this weekend, May 31-June 2, at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia. Fans can follow Kutztown's Twitter account for weekend updates, as well as KU's schedule pages (women / men). All matches featured in-stadium will be covered live on ESPN+, the first-ever multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company Direct-to-Consumer and International segment and ESPN. Fans can now subscribe to ESPN+ for just $4.99 a month (or $49.99 per year) and, in addition to hundreds of rugby matches annually, can stream thousands of additional live events, on-demand content and original programming not available on ESPN's linear TV or digital networks. This year's 16-team women's field features defending champion Lindenwood University, who won the championship match last June over Penn State, 21-12, to capture its first women's title. Penn State also returns this year and is joined by the women's sides from Army, Bloomsburg, Delaware, Drexel, Kutztown, Life, Navy, Northeastern, Notre Dame, Queens University, Saint Joseph's, Temple, Virginia Tech as well as the National Small College Rugby Organization Selects Squad. Emerson College Announces 2018-2019 Graduates
On Sunday, May 12, Emerson College awarded more than 970 undergraduate degrees and on Saturday, May 11, awarded nearly 300 graduate degrees during the College's Commencement ceremonies. Award-winning journalist, speaker, and author Soledad O'Brien received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree and delievered the undergraduate commencement address. Award-winning scholar and writer Nell Irvin Painter, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Emmy-nominated filmmaker, and theatrical producer Jose Antonio Vargas, and President of Miami Dade College Eduardo J. Padron also received honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees.

Class & Charter Day Awards 2019
Hamilton's annual Class & Charter Day took place on May 13. Established in 1950, the event combines the traditional Class Day celebrating the end of classes with a commemoration of the granting of College's charter on May 26, 1812. The ceremony features an address by a historian, trustee, alumnus, or faculty member whose (subject) topic is related to Hamilton's history and traditions. Academic and scholarly achievement prizes are awarded to students and faculty. More than 150 students received prizes this year. In addition, 10 faculty members were honored for their contributions in the classroom.

More than 1,200 graduate as part of CCU's Class of 2019
Coastal Carolina University graduates are exactly what the world needs, according to commencement speaker and doctoral candidate Leigha Peterson. Peterson addressed the graduating class of 2019 - more than 1,200 students - during three separate commencement ceremonies at the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center May 10-11. "Whatever you are, put it out there," she said, "because it is better than good enough. It is exactly what the world needs!"

Students Recognized for Leadership at SUNY Oneonta
SUNY Oneonta recently recognized nearly 200 students who have attained leadership milestones through the college's LEAD (Leadership Education and Development) program. LEAD@Oneonta is a comprehensive leadership program based on current research and guidelines from the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. All students can choose to participate in the LEAD program, which aims to better prepare them for life after college by providing a comprehensive picture of leadership and the skills needed to be a good leader. Students can attain a silver, gold or platinum level. To attain each level, students must meet a mix of programmatic and experiential leadership requirements, including completion of online courses, attendance at educational events, and membership and leadership in one or more of SUNY Oneonta's 100+ student-run clubs and organizations. Completion of a leadership level is recognized on campus as a credential that can be used, for example, when running for office or applying for STEP (Student Travel for Excellence Program) funding. The program also provides students with a leadership record that can be submitted to potential employers.

Spring Theatre Production: West Side Story
Sixty students participated in the Spring Theatre production of West Side Story, directed by Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer. A cast of 26 students participated in the Spring Theatre production of West Side Story, directed by Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer. A live orchestra, featuring 30 students and conducted by Heather Buchman, accompanied the performance. The classic American musical received an update with the Theatre Department's production. Set in 2018 Bronx, New York, five months after hurricane Maria, the timeless musical tells a story of love, of otherness and street gangs. West Side Story was presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

196 Students Receive Susan Sutton Smith Award
A total of 196 students received the SUNY Oneonta 2018-2019 Susan Sutton Smith Award for academic excellence. To be eligible for the award, a student must be a freshman, sophomore or junior with a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher. Student award winners receive a certificate, a gift card to the campus bookstore, and an invitation to attend the annual Susan Sutton Smith Lecture and reception. Dr. Tracy Betsinger, associate professor of biological anthropology, will deliver this year's Susan Smith Lecture titled, "Babies Are Us: What Can We Learn from Fetuses and Infants from History and Prehistory," on Tuesday, April 9, 7 p.m. in the Otsego Grille, Morris Conference Center on campus.

Students study healthcare policy in Washington, D.C.
Thirteen students from SUNY Oneonta's School of Economics and Business and Political Science traveled to Washington D.C. over spring break for a health policy workshop on Medicaid, Medicare and the political debate on Universal Healthcare. They were accompanied by Dr. Kpoti Kitissou, Michelle Thibault and Dr. Gina Keel. The trip was part of Dr. Kitissou's special topics course on Health Economics. The workshop was coordinated by John Kaelin, Senior Advisor to the Centene Corporation (Class of 1977). Students had discussion sessions with a US House of Representatives member, a US Senate Finance Committee member, health policy staffers, health insurance companies and policy directors, and lobbyists. They also attended a House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee hearing and the Hill's Women in Congress event. The trip culminated with presentations from students on a research question on health economics or policy topic each developed over the week. An alumni event was held March 7, 2019, to complement the learning experience and provide networking opportunities for the participants.

2019 Sophomore Expedition
The Sophomore Expedition is a guaranteed study abroad program. In the spring semester of their sophomore year, students participate in a series of classes to prepare them for the trip. Then they spend 8-10 days traveling as a class to an international destination where they participate in a number of service activites. This year they traveled to Athens, Greece.
